Louisiana Museum of Modern Art

Another really great day trip we’ve enjoyed while here in Denmark was visiting the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art located on the Øresund Sound in Humlebæk. It took about 45 minutes by train to get to get there, which was a pretty fun journey since it was Brandon’s first train ride! We got a little too comfortable though and had brought along books notes, etc., and were both so engrossed in reading that we almost missed our stop. It was a quick scramble to gather everything up, but we made it!

The Louisiana is located about 15 minutes from the train station, so we enjoyed a nice walk along the streets and cute houses of the town. The museum itself is located along the coast, and many pieces are outside on the grass and the rooms have a lot of windows overlooking the water. It is absolutely gorgeous. There is also a cafe with really good food, so it’s worth making a full afternoon out of. And, a fun fact about the Louisina: the name comes from the land owner Alexander Brun, who married three women who were all named Louise. (So, no relation to the state.) 🙂

There were a quite a few really cool exhibits and artwork, but we spent the most time in the one about Africa, focusing on the architecture, art, and culture on the Aftican continent. Brandon has some pretty good photos of this which I will add later. My favorite exhibit was Yayoi Kusama’s Gleaming Lights of the Souls – a dark closed room surrounded by mirrors, water, and lights that changed color. It was really really breathtaking!
